WiFi or 4G camera: plan the connection and data
Evaluate WiFi when a compatible site network reaches the camera. Evaluate a cellular variant when the installation needs an operator connection. In either case, test the exact camera, app and network together before ordering a range.
Separate the local link from the service
Cisco describes WiFi as a wireless local-area network. Vodafone's IoT terms make cellular connectivity conditional on equipment capability, coverage and availability, and specify plan and roaming conditions. Those operator terms illustrate the checks to make; they do not establish compatibility for a catalogue camera or apply to every country.

| Decision | WiFi variant | Cellular variant |
|---|---|---|
| Before choosing hardware | Ask for supported WiFi bands and router requirements. Test at the mounting point. | Ask for the exact cellular module and supported bands. Check the destination operator and site coverage. |
| Before activation | Agree network credentials, internet access and who maintains the router. | Confirm SIM format, activation, account ownership, PIN handling and APN settings with the supplier and operator. |
| Ongoing service | Check the site's internet service and any usage restrictions. | Check the data allowance, out-of-plan charges, roaming, renewal and service suspension rules. |
Measure the data your use requires
Agree a representative trial covering the intended live viewing, alerts, playback and any cloud recording. Record observed usage using the operator's meter and the actual camera settings, then choose an allowance with the operator. Ask how usage changes with recording settings and shared viewers. No monthly data allowance or SIM inclusion is promised for the catalogue cameras.
Pair the connection with the power choice
QL31 three-lens solar camera and QD18 three-lens outdoor PTZ camera list WiFi / 4G variants. The former uses a solar panel; the latter lists DC12V. Confirm the ordered variant in writing. The power and connection guide explains how to make both decisions.
Include these details in the RFQ
Send the destination country, operator, installation location, available WiFi, planned live-view pattern and recording requirement. Ask whether a SIM is supplied, who activates it, who pays service charges and what support applies after a network change. Review app and storage responsibilities alongside the network trial.
